Cite and Release: So Far, No Surprises in Dallas

The City of Dallas’ Cite and Release program for marijuana possession is only a few months old (the program took effect on Dec. 1), and already it seems that racial and geographic disparities will continue to be the norm for marijuana offenses.

The Dallas Observer reported in January that in the first two months since Cite and Release took effect, Dallas police officers wrote 23 citations for marijuana possession. Additionally, “each of those citations was given to a black or Latino person, and all but six citations were written south of Interstate 30.”
