Holiday Celebrations

Coy Clark Dec. 26, 2014

This weekend, drivers and those celebrating will continue to face increased dangers. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism issued information regarding how alcohol consumption increases during the holiday season. During the holidays, people that do not normally drink on a regular basis will be at an increased risk for endangering themselves and others. This threat also comes from those that regularly drink; however during holidays, social gatherings and stressful situations can impair their regular judgment.

Data from the NIAAA reports impairment levels from drinking.

  • Mild Impairment – 0.0 – 0.05% BAC

  • Increased Impairment – 0.06 -0.15% BAC

  • Severe Impairment – 0.16 – 0.30% BAC

  • Life Threatening – 0.31 – 0.45% BAC

holidayFrom party guests bringing bottles of wine, to champagne toasts, these BAC numbers can be reached quicker than normal.

As drivers share the road with an increased number of impaired drivers, the results from an accident can be devastating. Additionally, as people find themselves celebrating with an increased number of partygoers, innocent individuals can find themselves falling victim to being injured in fights and falls do to negligence of others.
